Human Gene Mutation Database (HGMD) Workshop
Prerequisite: None
Description: HGMD® Professional is a unique resource providing comprehensive data on human inherited disease mutations. Its compilation of structured, manually curated data from the peer-reviewed literature enables quick access to both single mutation queries and advanced search applications. HGMD® is widely used in human genetics research, diagnostics, and personal genomics applications.
In this hands-on workshop, you will learn:
  • look up mutation information for a gene of interest
  • filter a genes mutation information by an associated disease
  • look up mutation information for a disease of interest
  • browse for mutations by type of mutation (missense, nonsense, indel, etc)
  • perform advanced searches to identify mutations by criteria such as nucleotide and amino acid sequence context, affected genomic features, and more
  • export mutation tracks for viewing in UCSCs genome browser

In addition to our regularly scheduled classes, we will gladly customize database instruction sessions, tours, and orientations for individuals and small groups. One-on-one consultations to discuss the specific resources and research tools you’re interested in using can also be scheduled. Faculty members or residency directors can schedule customized instruction sessions focused on the resources and research skills of greatest interest to your students or residents. Let us help you find the information you need for your course work, research, and clinical practice.

    MEDLINE & LinkOut Tutorials
MEDLINE is the NLM’s premier bibliographic database in the field of biomedicine. LinkOut, a service of the PubMed interface, allows the Mount Sinai community to link directly from MEDLINE to the full text of thousands of journal articles.

    Database Orientations
The library has over 100 end-user databases. Learn to use Web of Science, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Harrison’s Online, LexisNexis, MD Consult, ProQuest Direct, PsycINFO, PubMed and many more!
